Foot Orthotics
The foot and ankle are the foundation of the overall posture of our bodies. How they perform, can affect how your skeletal body feels and functions overall. The stability and efficiency of the foot and ankle promote better foot health and general body function.
Orthotics are biomechanical devices that are inserted into your footwear. These custom made devices are designed to alleviate pain and discomfort. A custom-made orthotic enables the joints and bones of the foot to function more efficiently, both while standing and in motion.
The purpose of foot orthotics:
- Over Pronation of the Feet and / or ankles
- Abnormally high arches
- Plantar Fasciitis
- Excessive supination of the foot
- Pediatric Problems including In-toe and Out-toe Instabilities
- Neuromas (burning sensation in the ball of the foot)
- Foot Pain and Fatigue
- Offloading Corns & Calluses
- Ulcers (deflection of pressure)
- Lower Back Pain
- Leg Pain and Fatigue
- Knee Pain
- Sports Injuries
- Bunions
- Arthritis
Children (who are of walking age) may benefit from orthotics if they are overcompensating for a foot deformity (e.g., flat feet, intoeing etc.). Orthotics are often used to correct, control or compensate for a bone deformity or soft tissue ailment. A Chiropodist may determine that a child requires biomechanical orthotic devices to improve their overall foot and leg function.
